IRCOIT/Research/Newletters/Acquisition – Nvidia (NVDA.O) has finalized its $700 million acquisition of Israeli AI startup Run:ai, following a thorough antitrust review.
The European Commission granted unconditional approval for the deal earlier this month, concluding that the acquisition would not harm competition in the market. This decision came after an investigation focused on concerns that Nvidia, which dominates the market for AI graphics processors with an 80% share, could strengthen its control over GPU-related markets.
Run:ai, which specializes in optimizing infrastructure for AI workloads, announced in a blog post that it plans to open-source its software. “While Run:ai currently supports only Nvidia GPUs, open-sourcing the software will enable it to extend its availability to the entire AI ecosystem,” the company stated.
Regulatory scrutiny of the deal had extended beyond Europe, with the U.S. Department of Justice reportedly investigating the acquisition on antitrust grounds. Regulators on both sides of the Atlantic have recently increased oversight of tech companies acquiring startups, fearing potential threats to market competition.
Run:ai Reflects on the Acquisition
